Estate Sale Companies in Metro Atlanta

An estate sale company sells the contents of a house to the public, usually over a weekend. They research and price everything, staff the sale, handle the crowd, and take a commission on what sells, typically 30 to 50 percent in Metro Atlanta. Most have a minimum, so a house with little of value may not be worth a sale.

About estate sale companies

What does an estate sale company charge in Atlanta?

Most work on commission, commonly 30 to 50 percent of gross sales, and the rate usually drops as the expected total goes up. Many also set a minimum, often somewhere around $3,000 to $5,000 in expected sales, below which a sale is not worth staffing. Ask whether advertising, staffing, and credit card fees come out of their side or yours.

How long does an estate sale take from the first call?

Plan on two to four weeks. The company needs roughly one to two weeks to sort, research, and price everything, then the sale itself runs two or three days, usually Friday through Sunday. Settlement typically follows within two weeks after that.

What happens to whatever does not sell?

That is the single most important question to ask up front. Some companies include a donation run and a broom-swept cleanout, some charge extra for it, and some leave the leftovers where they sit. Get the answer in writing before you sign, because a house that is 80 percent empty still cannot be listed or closed on.

Do I have to be there during the sale?

No, and most companies prefer you are not. Family members in the house tend to slow the sale down and make pricing harder. You will want to remove anything you are keeping, along with all personal papers, before the staging starts.
